SpeakerAsif Khan works across the fields of architecture, industrial and furniture design, and is dedicated to pushing these disciplines in new and unexpected directions with his work having been described as “wildly inventive” by Joseph Grima, editor of Domus.
Khan studied architecture at the The Bartlett School, University College London. In 2004 he graduated as the top student in the faculty and received full scholarship for the Architectural Association, where he spent a year researching refugee housing on the Thai-Burma border.
In 2007 Khan was named one of the 10 best graduating architects in the UK by Building Design magazine. The studio Asif Khan Ltd. was also founded in 2007.
In 2010 he took up a prestigious Designer in Residence position at the Design Museum – the first-ever architect to hold this post.
Khan was named Designer of the Future by Design Miami in 2011 and one of five Designers to Watch by the New York Times in 2011.
For the 2012 London Olympics Khan designed Coca-Cola’s pavilion for the Olympic Park, following a search for the best young architecture studio in the country. Significantly, this design marked the first time in Coca-Cola’s history that the global brand commissioned an Olympic showcase feature without a single Coke logo on it. Other notable projects in 2012 included “Parhelia” for Swarovski, exhibited at Design Miami.
Khan has a global network of clients and collaborators including Swarovski, colette, Coca-Cola, the Design Museum, Design Miami, The British Council, The Royal Academy of Arts, The Architecture Foundation, Idée, Sawaya & Moroni, Danese Milano, Paul Smith Ltd. and the Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative.
