Tshepiso Lekganyane

Tshepiso Lekganyane is a young jewellery designer.

Tshepiso Lekganyane is a young jewellery designer. Although she has a Fine Arts Degree from University of the Witwatersrand, and participated in notable exhibitions quite early in her fine arts career, she always felt as though she didn’t fit in.

She left South Africa to study at Alchimia contemporary jewellery school in Florence, Italy, where she explored how to merge her love for fashion and art through jewellery. She is the founder and metalsmith of her namesake jewellery brand.

She has now returned to South Africa to embrace the unusual and break the rules of a long-celebrated aesthetic that puts masculinity and femininity into separate boxes. Each one of her gender-fluid sterling silver pieces is made with freedom of expression and individuality in mind. Each fits as an extension of the body.

Her collaborative “Landing” campaign with Cape Town-based duo Anthony Hinrichsen (Creative director) and Armand Dicker (Photographer) has been featured in publications such as Bubblegum Club and Visi. As a team, they translated their interest in the otherworldly and uniquely beautiful into stunning images of muse Yongama Mgqibela, capturing the distinctive spirit of Tshepiso.

Future goals for Tshepiso include finding a solid footing in South Africa and the rest of the globe. Moreover, the brand is working on ideas and pieces that are more gender-inclusive to continue pushing the envelope of wearable jewellery, stretching the imagination and making it a reality.
